I like robust, but I'm now realizing that Microsoft has poisoned the
field for us. Certain words are so over-used that possibly we should
avoid them. For instance, you'd have to break my arm into little
splinters and drag me around the Colissevm by it to get me to use the
word 'rich' to describe anything about OCaml. I **hate** the word
'rich', it's total bullshit do-nothing meaningless market babble!
So, do people feel that 'robust' is overused? Does it pass the laugh
test? As in, "It's robust!" "Yeah, sure it is." "So's my mother."
'Powerful' is definitely an overused word. Which means, we didn't think
much about this when we were defining Python's "simple, elegant,
powerful" catch phrase. I suppose that having 3 words together has a
different effect than 1 word in isolation. Anyways I get tired of
hearing about 'Powerful' Microsoft products because it's always a lie.
In fact, my MS friend and I frequently make jokes where we rewrite
non-technical product descriptions in Microsoftese. Microsoft Oatmeal
[TM], Microsoft Milk [TM], Microsoft Box [TM]. Microsoft Box provides
powerful box stacking services within other boxes.
