[Orca-users] Orca build difficulties (rrdtool)

I'm having some troubles building orca and am a complete novice in
these autoconf/automake tools. I installed gcc 3.2.3 on Solaris 9 and
built GNU make (3.80), autoconf (2.57), automake (1.7.8), m4 (1.4),
perl (5.8.1), and libtool (1.5) using that compiler.

I run ./configure just specifying the HTML dir and a prefix dir. When
I run make, it dies while building rrdtool:

cd rrdtool-1.0.40 && make CFLAGS=""
make[2]: Entering directory `/tmp/orca/0.27/packages/rrdtool-1.0.40'
cd . && automake --foreign Makefile
configure.in: no proper invocation of AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE was found.
configure.in: You should verify that configure.in invokes
AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE,
configure.in: that aclocal.m4 is present in the top-level directory,
configure.in: and that aclocal.m4 was recently regenerated (using
aclocal).
make[2]: *** [Makefile.in] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/tmp/orca/0.27/packages/rrdtool-1.0.40'
make[1]: *** [make_rrdtool] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/tmp/orca/0.27/packages'
make: *** [all] Error 1

I have no troubles building rrdtool 1.0.45 from source on this machine,
but cannot get the automated build of the embedded version to work.
Any tips?
