Thanks,

Subject: [Orca-users] Err making r529 + Questions about versions

Hi,

I'm still using Orca 0.27 on Linux with 2.6 kernel, so my graphs with disk read/write rates are blank (/proc format changed, as somebody pointed out a few months back). I'm trying to upgrade from 0.27, but looking at the bottom part of http://www.orcaware.com/orca/ , it is not clear how that is done, so here are some questions

1) What version should one get? r529 snapshot?
2) What are those 1.36 and 1.37 for Orcallator.cfg and Orcallator.cfg referring to? Are those Orca versions? I don't see them available for download anywhere? Also, why do these numbers/versions differ?
3) What's the best way to upgrade from 0.27 (to r529, say)? Just configure, make, make install, and let all 0.27 scripts be overwritten, and everything will continue running as normal, after procallator.pl is restarted?
4) I hit a wall while making r529:

...
checking whether we are using the GNU C++ compiler... no
checking whether g++ accepts -g... no
checking dependency style of g++... none
checking how to run the C++ preprocessor... /lib/cpp
configure: error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
See `config.log' for more details.
make[1]: *** [rrdtool-1.0.50/config.status] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/otis/orca-snapshot-r529/packages'
make: *** [all] Error 1

$ ll /lib/cpp

$ ll /usr/bin/cpp

$ file /usr/bin/cpp
/usr/bin/cpp: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.2.5, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped

This is from config.log:
configure:2062: gcc --version </dev/null >&5
gcc (GCC) 3.4.3 20050227 (Red Hat 3.4.3-22.fc3)

Any ideas about what's causing this error(s?).

Thanks,
Otis
