It was with Orca 0.27. r535 introduced other compilation challenges.

Interesting. Is that with Orca 0.27 still, or did this involve an
upgrade to r535?

Subject: [Orca-users] orca-0.27/rrdtool: compile fails with "PerlIO:
macro recursion"
Versions: orca-0.27, Solaris 10, Perl 5.8.4, gcc 3.4.6, gnu make 3.80
Overview: The configure runs successfully, and make proceeds quite
happily, but fails while making rrdtool, with a macro recursion error.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
