Thanks for pointing out this problem with Perl.  I tried using 5.004_04 and
its very broken (couldn't even install newer Getopt::Long).  Perl 5.004_05
is fine, but upgrading to 5.6.1 is the best bet.

The next release of Perl will require 5.004_05 so that people won't run into
this problem.

That's right, all the other disk info is per filesystem.
