The problem with the subversion port is libtool - remember that email
thread we had recently about this ? Until libtool is updated in the
FreeBSD port tree to 1.4, updates to subversion are going to be few if
any. Apparently, LOTS of ports are still dependant on libtool 1.3. Sounds
like libtool hasn't been updated because of this large number of dependencies.

I'm building the subversion client/server from scratch on FreeBSD and
Solaris. I'm avoiding the ports tree completely.
